NHTI Professor Appointed to Workforce Commission
CONCORD — The New Hampshire Nurses Association (NHNA) has appointed NHTI Nursing Department Chair Mary Jean Byer, MS, RN, to serve on the newly-formed Commission to Review and Evaluate Workforce and Job Training in New Hampshire.
The commission was established by the legislature on July 2, 2018, “to review and evaluate all government funded workforce and job training programs in New Hampshire to ensure that they are effective, not duplicative, and that they are contributing to the needs of the workforce and the labor market.” NHNA appoints one member of the 16 member commission.
Mary Jean Byer has been with NHTI for the past 32 years, initially as adjunct and then full-time nursing faculty, later as Curriculum Chair, and presently as Department Chair. She previously served on Senator Woodburn’s Commission to study the shortage of nurses and other skilled healthcare workers for home health care services and post-acute care services. Byer has also served as a member of the Nursing Advisory Board at Franklin Pierce University and Plymouth State University.
