How will fall classes be offered at NHTI?
Fall classes will be delivered in three different formats to give you choice: online, remote, and hybrid.
Online – These asynchronous courses are fully online and allow you to complete assignments and manage your own schedule while following set deadlines and course requirements.
How online courses will appear in SIS:
Remote – These synchronous courses are fully online but require you to attend remotely at a set date and time through an online platform (i.e., Zoom).
How remote courses will appear in SIS:
Hybrid – These courses are a mix of online and on-campus learning.
How hybrid courses will appear in SIS:
How do hybrid courses work?
Hybrid courses at NHTI are those requiring hands-on learning experiences that are difficult to replicate virtually. Students in hybrid courses receive both on-campus and online instruction. In hybrid courses this fall, there are several models being used by our faculty. You may come to campus one day a week and attend lectures online the other days of the week that the class is scheduled. It’s important that you check your email and Canvas for information and direction from your instructor about hybrid courses. When on-campus instruction happens, you’ll be required to follow all health and safety protocols.
What if there is a tight squeeze between when a remote class ends and I have to be on campus?
There are two protocols in place to address this, and faculty members will communicate the protocol expected for their class:
Protocol One: You’ll be expected to attend the remote course but while on campus. For this protocol, you’re encouraged to come to campus and, following all NHTI safety protocols, use a college computer or your laptop to attend the class remotely. You’ll then go to your scheduled lab course.
Protocol Two: Your instructor will divide the class and designate certain students who are expected to attend the remote course on campus and in a classroom. The designated students will attend the lecture and lab on the same day; the students who are not attending lab right after the synchronous lecture will attend the class remotely.
Who decided how fall classes will be offered?
Our Academic Affairs Reopening Committee comprised four department chairs, two academic affairs staff members, one administrator and the head of campus safety. We were tasked with developing plans that factored in technology needs, safety needs, instructor needs, and financial needs of how to best offer courses in the fall. Our four department chairs worked collaboratively with other department chairs to assess individual courses and decide how best to offer them this fall. The decision-making process involved thoughtful and careful consideration of all factors, with the health and safety of our students being the top priority.
What courses will meet on campus?
Only courses that have the hybrid designation in SIS will have an on-campus component. You’ll receive more information from faculty two weeks prior to the start of the course regarding when you are expected to come to campus.
How do I find out how fall courses are being offered?
You can check in SIS to find out how courses will be offered. There are three codes: online, remote, and hybrid. Remote and hybrid courses have meeting times and days. Hybrid courses have an actual room location. Remote courses have a designated day and time that the class meets remotely.
What’s SIS and how do I access it?
SIS stands for Student Information System. You can access SIS through our website or Canvas by using your Easy Login credentials. SIS allows you to read course offerings, register for courses, pay your bills, access Degree Works, and more.
What if I can’t find the information I need about my class?
The best thing to do is contact your advisor. You’re also welcome to contact the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) via email or phone at nhtiace@ccsnh.edu or 603-230-4027 if you have any questions.
Will there be tutoring in the fall?
Yes! Virtual and in-person tutoring will be available. We’ll follow health and safety protocols for all in-person tutoring. Please be aware of signage that indicates what protocols you need to follow when entering the building. The tutoring schedule will be posted on our ACE page and Canvas. Please contact ACE via email or phone at nhtiace@ccsnh.edu or 603-230-4027 if you have any questions.
Are academic advisors available to help?
Academic advisors will be available with a full array of availability and ways to meet with them. Most meetings will occur virtually, but we will offer in-person appointments as well. Please check the Academic Advising page for more information, to chat with us, or to find out more. All safety and heath protocols will be maintained, and you will need to be aware of signage that indicates what protocols you need to follow when entering the building. Please contact us via email or phone at nhtiadvising@ccsnh.edu or 603-230-4021 if you have any questions.
What about Accessibility Services?
Accessibility Services will be available to all students. You are encouraged to make an appointment by contacting nhtiaccessibiltyservices@ccsnh.edu or 603-230-4027.
Will the library/Learning Common be open?
The library and Learning Common will be opened Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. During our open hour, full library services, meeting spaces, and computers will be available. All safety and health protocols will be maintained, and you will need to be aware of signage that indicates what protocols you need to follow when entering the building.
Will computer labs be open?
Computer labs will be available this fall. Because of social distancing, smaller groups will be allowed into to use the labs. All safety and health protocols will be maintained, and you will need to be aware of signage that indicates what protocols you need to follow when entering the building.
Can I have guests in my residence hall room?
As long as the state of emergency remains in effect, we need to significantly reduce the number of people allowed in each residence hall, so outside guests are not permitted at this time. You can host one additional person in your private room, but this person needs to be a resident of the same residence hall. When the state of emergency is lifted in conjunction with state guidance and Campus Safety, we will slowly open our communities to include guests from outside of your residence hall.
What will student life look like?
NHTI will continue to provide opportunities for students in leadership, social, educational, and diversity programming. These will be done via virtual platforms and potentially, depending on restrictions, in-person events following social distancing guidelines and other precautions. Clubs will still meet, but most will meet virtually. Once we get confirmation from all of our clubs, we will create a document with details on each club’s meeting plans.
