Library Offers New Zoom Sessions, More Resources
From the Stacks, January 2022
Welcome back! Happy New Year and happy Spring semester.
Have you noticed the days are getting longer? Dec. 21 was the shortest day of the year, known as winter solstice. Since then, daylight hours have increased. If you’re interested in learning more about this astronomical event, check out this this Research Starter. Research starters are bite-sized articles exploring a specific topic; they’re like peer-reviewed Wikipedia entries. By perusing this particular research starter, you’ll find, for instance, that there are two winter solstices each year, one in the Northern Hemisphere and another in the Southern Hemisphere.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we’re looking forward to helping in any way we can this semester at the Learning Commons Library. We’ve scheduled drop-in Zoom sessions starting this month for:
- Help finding an article for a paper
- Help finding a book on a particular topic or for recreational purposes
- An intro to what the Learning Commons Library offers – from DVDS, e-books, and popular fiction to study spaces suited for a variety of learning styles

Next month is Black History month. The library will have special displays during the month with books, DVDs, and other materials focused on this topic. And be sure to check out the library’s Anti-Racism Toolkit: Understanding Racism.
Also next month, our Wings of Knowledge cultural series resumes with presentations by Mohamed Defaa, the French and Arabic teacher at Merrimack High School and an Arabic instructor at Southern New Hampshire University, and Dan Billin, former long-time reporter for the Valley News.
