NHTI Announces Mindfulness Speaker Series
CONCORD – NHTI – Concord’s Community College will host Mindfulness in Society: Moving from Stress Reduction to Transformation, a speaker series taking place each Monday evening in October from 5 – 6:30 p.m. For information: www.nhti.edu/mindfulness
The series will kick off with an opening 15-minute meditation by the renowned Sharon Salzberg. Sharon is a pioneer in the field of meditation, a world-renowned teacher, and a NY Times bestselling author.
- October 5 Putting Western Mindfulness into Perspective will be presented by Mark Leonard, a UK-based pioneer, applying mindfulness in sustainability and as organizational change. He played a key role in establishing the Oxford Mindfulness Centre where he adapted Mindfulness-Based Organizational Education. This talk will end at 6:45 to accommodate the opening meditation.
- October 12 Reimagining Our Lives through Compassion will be presented by Mirabai Bush, the founder and Senior Fellow of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society. She is also co-founder of the Association for Contemplative Mind in Higher Education.
- October 19 Mindfulness and Police Reform will be presented by Richard Goerling, a certified mindfulness trainer, retired police officer, and veteran who believes in our innate resilience, humanity and capacity to show up, serve others, and thrive through crisis.
- October 26 Mindful Intersections: Liberation Over Time will be presented by Stephanie Briggs, a former community college professor and the owner of Be.Still.Move., a program of mindful/contemplative embodied movement and arts-based learning. Her main focus is on the creation of contemplative, compassionate communities.
NHTI Professor of English (Introduction to Mindful Communication), Dan Huston, has spearheaded and guided the evolution of mindful communication courses and programs at NHTI for more than twenty years. Many of NHTI’s faculty members have studied Communicating Mindfully under Dan’s guidance and worked with him to design curricula, much of which was supported by grants from the Department of Labor, the National Endowment for Humanities, and the Pink House Foundation. Dan has received training at the renowned Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn. This Speaker Series is the 3rd Annual Mindfulness in Society Conference hosted by NHTI.
