NHTI Establishes Non-Trad Dental Scholarship

Ann Louise Scott Scholarship Fund Open to First-Semester Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Students

CONCORD—Non-traditional students now have a new scholarship for which they may qualify: The Ann Louise Scott Scholarship Fund is open to non-traditional students in the Dental Hygiene associate degree program and Dental Assisting certificate program at NHTI – Concord’s Community College.

Funded through a generous initial donation of $25,000, this scholarship aims at encouraging and assisting first-semester students older than 25 years, single-parents, first-generation students, and adults looking to change careers – among other definitions of non-traditional students – in furthering their career in the fields of dental hygiene and assisting, with a focus on community service.

“We are honored to add the Ann Louise Scott Scholarship Fund to our scholarship offerings,” says Dr. Andrew Fisher, VP of Academic Affairs at NHTI. “Our non-traditional students truly deserve such a beneficial opportunity.”

Applicants are required to write an essay explaining their interest in dental hygiene or dental assisting as a career, and are encouraged to demonstrate involvement and commitment to local community service.

“My mom was a dental hygienist when I was younger,” says Laura Scott, benefactor of the scholarship and director of alumni and development at NHTI. “When I started working at NHTI, she would ask about the program here and what I was doing to support it. With her sudden passing in December, this is a way for me to continue to support the dental hygiene students in a meaningful way in memory of my mom.”

Established in 1970, NHTI’s Dental Hygiene associate degree program is the only one of its kind offered in the state of New Hampshire and draws students both locally and from around New England. Students learn to analyze health information, educate, and provide clinical services to improve oral and overall health. NHTI also offers the only accredited Dental Assisting program in New Hampshire. Both programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
