NHTI’s BTC Receives Dental Program Grant
CONCORD – The Business Training Center at NHTI – Concord’s Community College is pleased to announce the receipt of a $5000 grant from the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation to rebrand and repackage of several dental training programs to provide a faster, more cost-effective training pathway for Dental Assisting. These new trainings can be completed in 4-12 weeks.
“We’re so pleased to expand and better refine the footprint and accessibility of our Dental Assisting programs,” said Kathy Taylor, director of Workforce Development and Community Education at NHTI. “Our relationship with and ongoing support from Northeast Delta Dental and its foundation highlights the community importance of an exemplary Dental Assisting education, and we are honored to serve New Hampshire in this way.”
The grant will help fund new training courses:
- Preliminary Oral Inspection/Introduction to Dental Assisting(POI) and Infection Control Practice (ICP) provide the foundational skills needed in dental assistant training. They can be completed in 4 weeks with online course work and weekend in-person lab trainings.
- Techniques in Radiology for Dental Assistants provides the 8 weeks of training needed for dental assistants to sit for the DANB national certification exam.
When all three courses are taken in sequence, dental assistants gain the 3,500 hours of on-the-job training needed for DANB certification through their dental offices, rather than through an externship experience. With the urgent need to fill dental assistant positions in New Hampshire, the course funded in part by the Northeast Delta Dental grant will help to meet current and future occupational demands with qualified dental assistants.
“We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with NHTI, especially now as we work together to address the shortage of dental assistants in New Hampshire,” says Jennifer McGrath, manager of foundation and marketing initiatives at Northeast Delta Dental. “Supporting programs like this provides low-cost, quality education for those interested in a career in dental assisting, supports our dental community by increasing the availability of dental assistants, and ensures quality oral health care is available for the citizens of New Hampshire.”
The BTC will also provide scholarship assistance to the first cohort of 20-30 students in this program. The level of scholarship assistance has yet to be determined.
