Career Resources

Start your Career Journey

NHTI helps you to uncover and pursue your career goals no matter where you are in your college and career journey through online career coaching, assessment recommendations, and advising support. Meet with an advisor to begin your exploration or start with these online tools:

In your Canvas courses, you have access to Brainfuse by clicking on 24/7 Tutoring. Through Brainfuse, you have access to career assistance including assessments, live career coaching, a resume lab, veteran support, and other career resources. Access these tools in Brainfuse by clicking on Live Help, then Job Search, then Career Assistant or another category of your choosing.

The U.S. Department of Labor provides extensive career information, including the opportunity for you to take a career interest assessment, a skills assessment, and a values assessment. View this resource here. Below are some advising tips for completing these assessments, finding your results, and documenting and using your results. You can meet with an Advisor for more recommendations and support at any stage in this process.

Advising Tips:

  • The interest inventory is the same one recommended through Brainfuse (listed under Career Assistant above), but the skills and values assessments are different.
  • The results of the interest inventory and values assessment appear in boxes to the left of the job lists that appear for you. Be sure to click onto those results and save them or note them down.
  •  The results of the values test will be shown right away. To get the resulting jobs list, you must click on the value, then click on occupations.
  • Note some careers you find interesting from each of the three assessments; in the final step of this process, careers that resulted from two or more assessments will be important.
  • A how-to guide worksheet is provided for you to use as you complete all of these assessments. You do not have to fill it in completely. Fill in the assessment results and your top career interests for each assessment, then contact advising if you want support in identifying how your results translate to possible careers and areas of study.

The interest inventory that both Brainfuse’s Career Assistant and the U.S. Department of Labor provide is based on the Holland Code. Learn more about using those results here.

Look up majors related to your codes here.

Once you have identified some career of interest, you can watch some job simulations here.
