Confidentiality
Confidentiality is maintained in keeping with ethical and legal standards. Visits and conversations do not become part of any other NHTI record. Students are encouraged to discuss any concerns about confidentiality with the counselor.
Peer Counseling
Through grants from NAMI-NH and the Garrett Lee Smith Foundation, colleges around the country are focusing on suicide prevention and improving student mental health. At NHTI, students can meet with a trained peer for confidential conversations and listening support.
For some students, this is an important first step in getting connected to a professional counselor; for others, it simply helps them to reduce stress and vent in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Peer counselors receive training on setting boundaries, limits to confidentiality, and active listening.
